Chery has used its annual International User Summit to rip the covers off what will be the smallest model in its upmarket sub-brand’s range, with the new Omoda 4 revealed as a sharp-edged and futuristic small SUV.
• Next-gen Omoda SUVs shown in China
• Omoda 4 breaks cover as new entry-level SUV (no longer Omoda 3 or C3)
• Larger Omoda 7 mid-size SUV also shown with fancy park assistance tech
• Omoda 5 'Super Hybrid' also on the way
Omoda Jaecoo has unveiled a pair of futuristic SUVs in China this week, with the Omoda 4 and larger Omoda 7 both revealed at Chery Groups’ annual event.
Sporting the brand’s latest ‘Cyber Mecha’ design philosophy, the Omoda 4 – which was unveiled in April as the Omoda C3 – is set to launch as the Chinese premium sub-brand’s new entry-level model to sit below the Chery C5/E5.
While it’s yet to be confirmed, overseas reports suggest the Omoda 4 could come with several powertrains including ICE, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric-only. Production for the Omoda 4 will commence in 2026.
The larger Omoda 7 meantime, will sit below the Omoda 9 large SUV, likely in plug-in hybrid form, with the Chinese maker saying it’ll come equipped with the latest Automatic Parking Assistance (APA) system.
That system can support over 1000 different parking scenarios, according to Chery, thanks to its ability to “intelligently identify the environment and autonomously complete both entry and exit manoeuvres”.
Chery also used the event to announce its Omoda 5 Super Hybrid, an SUV with a claimed 165kW combined power output, a 0-100km/h sprint time of 7.9 seconds and a combined WLTP driving range of 1000km.
None of the vehicles mentioned above have been officially confirmed for Australia, although the Omoda 4 is inked in for a European launch and is a potential starter Down Under.
Right now, just the Omoda 9 in the ‘Omoda’ line-up is available for purchase in Australia. However, the Chinese car-maker will be looking to fill more segments with fresh models to flesh out its Omoda model range.
