Dash Cam manufacturer Nextbase surveyed 1,199 Australian drivers and discovered some concerning driver habits, especially when it comes to navigating carparks.
The 35-44-year-old driver group claimed the title of the most likely to hit a parked car, with 30 per cent admitting to it. More than one in three (38 per cent) drivers admitted to hitting another car with their car's door, with male drivers being the most likely culprit (41 per cent).
Worryingly, 17 per cent of Australians have experienced a hit and run parking accident. Men are more likely to have been involved, at 19 per cent compared to 14 per cent of female respondents. While 28 per cent of drivers surveyed have had their car broken into.

Dash cams have risen in popularity in recent times as they have become more affordable and accessible thanks to smartphone integrations. Many insurance companies welcome dash cam footage to assist their assessors in determining the cause of an incident and who’s at fault. Footage may even help a not-at-fault driver keep their no-claim bonus.
In the survey, 67 per cent of Australians said that they would feel more comfortable with an active Dash Cam in their car. This follows research from May 2021 which suggested that almost half (45 per cent) of Australian drivers believe Dash Cams should be mandatory.

71 per cent of Australians would feel encouraged to purchase a Dash Cam if they would get a discount on their car insurance. While two thirds (66 per cent) think having a Dash Cam decreases the likelihood of dangerous or reckless driving.
