Opel ADAM is a colourful character

GM's Euro-focused baby-car in multi-pronged publicity campaign including Valentino Rossi and Bryan Adams

Opel’s ADAM baby-car was launched internationally earlier this year, but GM’s German subsidiary aims to keep the buzz going by adding five new body colours, four new roof colours and three new seat fabrics.

Opel, which was discontinued in Australia this year after only a few months on sale, says the palette additions mean ADAM buyers can now choose from 16 body colours and six different roof colours to combine.

A new shade of silver (called ‘Silverwalker’), a rich dark brown (‘M. Darkside’), a bright blue (‘Let it Blue’), an audacious lime green (‘Dancing Green’) and a subtle warm grey (‘Pink-Kong’) are the new hues on offer, and three of these (dark brown, lime green and vibrant blue) are also offered as roof colours.

In addition, three new seat fabrics, three new interior decors and two new interior colours, one new headliner, two new interior mirror colours and three new exterior mirror cap decors as well as one new logo bar colour and two new sets of exterior decals further enrich ADAM’s individualisation possibilities.

As an additional publicity stunt, Opel has carried out a novel photo shoot with a 1:43 scale model ADAM captured by lensman Axel Wierdemann with backdrops that include the Rhine River and Wiesbaden main station.

Opel says the aim of Wierdemann’s photo project with ADAM as its leading actor was to create a new world of images while keeping the model as real and authentic as possible.

Small everyday items were transformed into completely different objects. For example, a popsicle stick turned into a diving board, and cinema tickets were rolled out to create a red carpet in front of an impressive backdrop.

The pictures give the impression of having been shot during different seasons in different countries, but actually they were all shot on the photographer’s home turf in the Rhine-Main region, very near Opel headquarters in Rüsselsheim.

Meanwhile, MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi and designer Aldo Drudi have created a one-off ADAM that will be auctioned to raise funds for the Meyer Children’s Hospital Foundation in Italy.

The funky ADAM was completed in three months by Opel brand ambassador Valentino ‘Vale’ Rossi and star designer Drudi, who redesigned the livery and interior that is now fitted with Dainese (famous for its motorcycle apparel) leather.

Meanwhile Rossi, also known as ‘The Doctor’, has added his own personal touches to the individualisation process. For example, the two-wheeled ace’s racing number 46 in neon colours is emblazoned on the exterior while his signature appears on the bonnet.

In an additional high-profile endorsement, the ADAM features in a calendar titled ‘ADAM by Bryan Adams’, featuring a car designed by the Canadian rocker.

The ‘ADAM by Bryan Adams’ will be launched as an exclusive limited-edition series of 10 cars, with the proceeds going to the Bryan Adams Foundation, which looks after needy people the world over.
