Opel has again teased a pivotal new concept that will purportedly influence the design of every new model it makes from now until 2025.
The concept, called the GT X Experimental, is set to be unveiled towards the end of 2018 and has previously been teased by the former GM-owned brand that was sold 12 months ago to French car-making giant, PSA.
So far, we've only been given a glimpse of the brand's new face that incorporates what the car-maker is calling the "Opel Compass" – two horizontal and vertical axes that intersect at the familiar illuminated version of the lightning bolt logo.
Helping highlight the horizontal line is a pair of upside-down L-shaped daytime running lamps. Said to have been inspired by the eye slots of a motorcycle helmet, Opel says this 'Vizor' design will be seen on its future road cars.
Officially, nothing else has been revealed on the technical nature of the new GT X Experimental but, at the 0:37sec mark in the video, the concept shows off a battery indicator with 475km of range remaining.
This confirms that Opel could also use the important GT X concept to debut its next-generation pure-electric technology which, since the concept's batteries aren't fully charged, will have a range of in excess of 500km.
The battery-powered powertrain also explains why Opel's latest concept lacks a conventional grille and cooling vents.
It's not yet known which production vehicle will first get the Vizor design language, but it's thought that next year's 2019 Corsa super-mini to be available in Europe will miss out.
Instead, it's likely the 2020 Astra will be the first car to get the company's fresh styling.
