French hyper-hatch fans wanting to get their hands on the outrageous Renault Megane RS Trophy or Trophy-R should act now.
Renault Australia has opened the order book for both models via its public website and just 20 lucky Aussies will actually get to park the record-breaking Renault Megane RS Trophy-R in their garage after first local deliveries take place early next year.
The limited-edition Trophy-R, dubbed “the ultimate track car” after claiming the front-wheel drive production car lap record at the Nurburgring in April, scores the same 221kW 1.8-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine and six-speed manual gearbox as the standard Renault Megane RS Trophy – 100 of which will arrive in Australia later this year.
However, the track-focussed Trophy-R – distinguished by pearl white paint with red accents around the headlights – weighs 130kg less before options, features a specific aero kit and rides on redesigned suspension with Ohlins dampers and unique Bridgestone Potenza S0007 tyres.
Trophy options include carbon ceramic front brakes, a lighter lithium battery, race seats, six-point Sabelt harness, titanium Akrapovic exhaust and ditching the rear seat.
There is also one solitary example of the Renault Megane RS Trophy R Record edition headed for Australia, where the French brand says it will be sold via auction at a later date.
Among other special items, it comes with carbon-fibre wheels courtesy of Australian company Carbon Revolution, plus improved suspension and aerodynamics.
Pricing is yet to be announced, but Renault Australia has confirmed the Trophy-R will top its growing Megane RS line-up at about $70,000 (which is less than in France, where the price is €55,000 or around $A88,000), while standard Trophy models could go close to $60,000.
Currently the Megane RS line-up opens with the Turbo Sport manual at $45,990 plus ORCs and includes the Cup manual ($48,990), Turbo Sport EDC auto ($50,490) and new Cup EDC auto ($51,990).
Renault Australia managing director Anouk Poelmann said that given the strong customer interest in the landmark hyper-hatch, it is important that every Australian is given the opportunity to be part of the exclusive Megane RS Trophy R club.
“I encourage anyone interested in purchasing a Megane RS Trophy R to register their interest,” she said.
