Order books open for Lexus LC Inspiration Series

Only a handful of special-edition flagship sports coupes will make it to Oz

The order books have opened for the strictly limited Lexus LC Inspiration Series special-edition, a top-end luxury sports coupe said to be inspired by the world of aviation and aeronautical engineering.

Priced from a cool $219,393 (plus on-road costs) in standard LC 500 form, the Lexus LC Inspiration Series also offered in hybrid LC 500h guise, priced a smidge more than its petrol-only sibling at $219,553 plus ORCs.

Like the Lexus LC 500 on which it’s based, power comes from a brutish 5.0-litre naturally-aspirated V8 delivering 351kW of power and 540Nm of torque straight to the rear wheels via a 10-speed auto.

Similarly, the limited-edition LC 500h carries over its full-time sibling’s petrol-electric powertrain, incorporating a 3.5-litre petrol V6 with an electric motor powered by a 650-volt lithium-ion battery to deliver combined outputs of 264kW/348Nm.

Lexus Australia says fewer than five units in total are expected to arrive Down Under, on a strict order-only basis through its authorised dealerships.

Those with pockets deep enough to snag one will be treated to a host of special-edition features on top of what’s already a very well equipped model.

The most obvious of these is a new and exclusive fixed rear wing. Comprising a hollow carbon construction, Lexus says the spoiler delivers an intricate carbon texture appearance on the surface, while being high in rigidity and low mass.

It’s also said to allow drivers to make “smooth vehicle posture changes” as well as provide “a more nimble driving experience through winding roads”, thanks to special wing tips designed to control airflow along the vehicle’s body sides, as opposed to providing downforce as with a conventional rear spoiler.

Three exterior colour options include White Nova, Sonic Silver and Onyx, while a black leather-accented/Alcantara interior is finished with hints of tan accents.

Alcantara is also used on the steering wheel, gear shifter, door trims and centre console, while the tan interior colour extends to the seat belts, centre console and door armrest highlight strips.

Said to be of a “deep-hung” construction, the front seats are pinched from the new Lexus LS limousine released earlier this year. The Japanese luxury car maker also says the upholstery is improved compared to regular LC models, allowing occupants to “sink into the front seat” more easily than before.

The Inspiration Series also adds unique carbon scuff plates that read ‘Lexus LC Special Edition’, and rides on huge 21-inch forged alloy wheels finished in gloss black to “give the underbody a more taut impression”.

Special blacked-out features continue across the exterior, including the grille surround, headlight and tail-light lenses and the bumper garnish.

These features are in addition to the 10 engineering updates and extra equipment applied to the facelifted Lexus LC Coupe launched here in mid-2020.

Lexus says those interested in an LC Inspiration Series should place their order via a Lexus dealership now.
