Order your Mustang online

Ford Australia's first web-based dealer ordering system attracts 1200 Mustang buyers

Ford Australia has established its first online vehicle ordering program in response to demand for the new Mustang, which has already attracted 1200 firm orders including 600 deposits in its first few days.

The Blue Oval claims the unprecedented early interest in the Mustang brings the total number of interested customers to more than 15,000 – despite the fact first deliveries won't take place for about a year, in December 2015.

The Australian-first online Mustang ordering system allows Ford's 200-plus dealers to identify the most serious buyers, Ford Australia to better forecast and meet demand, and customers to specify their vehicle preferences, including colour, transmission, engine and body style (coupe or convertible).

Ford says the site was also established to "help dealers identify customers who may have been drawn by the new car but are more likely to choose among Ford’s array of other new products", including the new Mondeo mid-sizer, facelifted Focus and Focus ST small cars, the facelifted Ranger ute and all-new Everest SUV in 2015.

They will be among 20 new or facelifted models to be released by Ford Australia between now and 2020.

“The Mustang is drawing people to Ford well in advance of its arrival, and we’ve reacted quickly to find a way to communicate with these new potential owners,” said Ford Australia President and CEO Bob Graziano.

“With more and more customers coming forward each week, this new pre-ordering system will allow us to plan and cater to their specific requests from the outset.

“In addition, the Mustang is giving people a new reason to think about Ford and a truly exciting opportunity to show Australians the future of our brand.

“We realize many people who are drawn to us by Mustang may choose a Ford vehicle in a different segment, giving us a great chance to show them our exciting new line-up of stylish, innovative products.”

Ford's sixth-generation (and first global) Mustang coupe and convertible will be available with a 231kW 2.3-litre turbo-petrol EcoBoost four-cylinder engine and a 303kW 5.0-litre V8, both with six-speed manual and automatic transmissions.

The Mustang coupe will make its Australian debut in Sydney on New Year's eve.
