From Ford to Ferrari, timestamps of the automotive world have found their way onto many a 12-inch wrap or Compact Disc cover art. Even in the digital world, they remain a poignant visual statement of throwbacks to a simpler and some would say a better time. Here are five of our favourite album and single covers which feature cars.
The BMW E30 M3 is said to be Ocean’s dream car – it’s not bad looking in bright orange, either! Not every car could pull that off. These days a tidy example of the 80s icon will set you back in excess of $80,000. This record was released in 2011 as one of Ocean's earlier works before breaking through with his album Channel Orange in 2012. Since then he has dug his teeth into his love of cars and now owns an E30 which he has modified as well as a newer blue M3.
For his ninth album, Ego Trippin’, Snoop Dogg was photographed with a Datsun 1600 (Bluebird P510 or just 510 in the USA) Wagon at Long Beach High School. A Datsun wagon – a forgotten badge and body style. *sobs*
It’s no great surprise a Ferrari makes its way onto many an album cover. The Ferrari F40 on Blur’s is quite special, though. If you’ve got a lazy $2.5m, you can get your hands on one now here on carsales. Otherwise, put this album on shuffle and enjoy the sounds and the album art.
If you ask us, you were definitely one lucky teenager if you were driving an ‘87 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z like the one mentioned in the hit song and on the single cover. If it’s good enough for Noelle… sorry dirtbag.
A misunderstood album cover, at best. The Plymouth Grand Voyager that features on the cover of The Black Keys' album El Camino is (we believe) a throwback to road trip memories in the band's first touring van.
The band explained in interviews at the time of the album's release that it was named after the Chevrolet El Camino ute. The inspiration came from when they were on tour in Canada in 2010 and sighted an El Camino, drummer Patrick Carney admitted that the title was selected as a joke. El Camino is also Spanish for "the way" or "the path" which band found after selecting it as the album title. What are the odds?
There is an infinite amount of albums out there which feature some automotive history, let us know in the comments what your favourite is.
