Pagani calls time on Huayra with one last special-edition

After seven years and a run of 100 cars, Italian car-maker ends Pagani production

Pagani has announced that it has begun building the very last Huayra at its factory in Atelier, Italy.

To celebrate the end of production, the hypercar maker says the final car -- which also happens to be the 100th Huayra ever made -- will be called 'Il Ultimo' – or "The Last One".

Painted in a livery said to have been inspired by Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 W09 race car, the final Huayra is said to pay tribute to Lewis Hamilton's F1 car.

Beneath its rear clamshell bonnet, the last Pagani hypercar is thought to be equipped with a 588kW/1000Nm 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 powerplant that's sourced from Mercedes-AMG.

Only this week the German car-maker confirmed it would axe the monstrous M279 blown V12 from its range due to difficulties with meeting future emissions standards.

Inside, the exterior livery is reflected in the cabin with unusual turquoise carpets and interior highlights contrasted with ivory-white leather seat trim.

Work is believed to be already well under way on a replacement for the Huayra, which according to the CEO and founder Horatio Pagani, will not rely on any electrification and will incorporate a manual transmission.

Later on, in 2025, a full pure-electric hypercar will arrive to join its petrol-powered sibling.

Some seven years after it began production, Pagani was recently launched as a brand in Australia.

Priced at an incredible $5.5 million plus on-road costs, the Huayra Roadster comes with full local compliance and is now Australia's most expensive car.
