Panamera pricing announced

Porsche's CLS rival, the Panamera, is due here in October

The Porsche Panamera range will comprise three variants when the controversially-styled four-door goes on sale here. Due October, Porsche's first attempt at a sedan will be priced from $270,200 for the base-grade Panamera S. The mid-range Panamera 4S raises the ante to $282,400 and the Panamera Turbo tops the range at $364,900.

A naturally-aspirated 4.8-litre petrol V8 with direct injection powers the rear-wheel drive base model and the all-wheel drive Panamera 4S. This engine develops 294kW of power and pushes the Panamera S to 100km/h from a standing start in 5.4 seconds, with a top speed of 283km/h. Fuel consumption for this variant is 10.L/100km and the CO2 emissions total 253g/km.

Despite the additional drivetrain components, the Panamera 4S with the same engine knocks 0.4 seconds off the acceleration time (5.0 seconds to 100km/h), but is ever so slightly slower with a top speed of 282km/h. Fuel use is 11.1L/100km combined and this variant emits 260g/km.

A turbo version of the engine powers the Panamera Turbo and musters 368kW of power for a 4.2-second time to 100km/h and a top speed of 303km/h. Combined-cycle fuel consumption is 12.2L/100km and CO2 emissions amount to 286g/km.

All three engines drive through the Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) double-clutch transmission and an auto-start/stop facility will be standard for all three variants

Porsche's designers have set up the Panamera's interior with a 'cockpit for four', essentially  providing all four occupants with their own individual cockpit-style accommodation. To achieve this end, the designers have dragged the centre console all the way back to the rear of the cabin and provided ergonomic seating for all four passengers. Buyers will be able to order the Panamera with a choice of 13 colour and material combinations, four two-tone leather options, carbon-fibre and Natural Olive woodgrain among them.

Comfort and convenience features will range from 14-way electrically-adjustable front seats with a driver memory package for seats and steering wheel, to a Burmester premium audio system featuring 16 speakers and USB interfacing.
