Just how much wind can you get in your hair? 331kW’s worth if Audi’s new RS5 Cabriolet is anything to go by.
The stonking (331kW/430Nm) 4.2-litre V8-powered model made its debut at the Paris Motor Show, accelerating from 0-100km/h just 0.4 seconds slower than its hardtop sibling -- that’s 4.9 seconds for those playing at home.
Like most fast Germans, the RS5 Cabriolet’s top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h, though in its home market, an option package will lift this figure to 280km/h.
Despite these lofty figures, Audi claims an impressive combined cycle fuel consumption figure of 9.1L/100km.
The Audi RS5 Cabriolet is offered as standard with a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission and quattro permanent all-wheel drive. Audi’s slick (rear) sports diff is optional.
Compared to the regular four-seat convertible the RS5 rides 20mm lower. Its lightweight ‘acoustic hood’ -- available in a choice of four colours -- is dispensed with in 15 seconds and locked back in to place in 17. If that seems like a long time to sit at the lights fear not, the roof is operable at speeds up to 50km/h.
Equipment highlights include 19-inch alloy wheels, revised front and rear bumpers, a carbo-fibre boot lid spoiler, LED tail lamps and sparkling LED and xenon headlamps. Carbon ceramic stoppers are optional as is Audi’s Dynamic Ride Control suspension. All other equipment, including the full suite of electronic driver aids, are carried over from the A5 range.
The model goes on sale in the EU early next year with Australian sales timing as yet unannounced.
