PARIS MOTOR SHOW: Blinged-out Ghibli
Maserati fields a Ghibli show car assembled with some help from Italian fashion house Ermenegildo ZegnaIt may be a mouthful of a name, but the Maserati Ghibli Ermenegildo Zegna Edition will be an epicurean delight for fanciers of the prestige marque. The show car is chock-full of mouth-watering goodness, courtesy of the famed Italian men's fashion house.
Maserati has not officially committed the car to production, but it's likely to follow the trail blazed by the Quattroporte Zegna Limited Edition that was built in a low-volume production run of just 100 units.
Based on the Ghibli S Q4, the concept car features a tri-coated finish in a previously unseen colour – Azzurro Astro – and rides on 20-inch 'Urano' wheels in a Liquid Metal coating. The prestige paint flops from blue to dark grey.
Inside, the cabin features a mix of Poltrona Frau leather, glossy carbon-fibre decorative trim and micro-chevron silk weave, supplied by Zegna. The seats are trimmed in natural-look leather with grey stitching and the silk weave for the inserts. A 'salt and pepper' silk jersey with an alternating rib embroidery was selected for the door panels. Brand labels displaying the legend "Ermenegildo Zegna Exclusively for Maserati" are fitted throughout the cabin.
With the twin-turbo V6 under the bonnet, driving to all four wheels, the Ghibli show car is still good for a 4.8sec 0-100km/h time.
Joining the special edition Ghibli on the stand in Paris is the 2015 model year Quattroporte GTS. The 2015 Quattroporte models have been in production since June, and the GTS can be easily identified by the new 'GTS' badge at the rear. Front spoiler, side sills and the lower strip on the rear bumper are now finished in body colour. The front grille moves to a gloss black shell and the trident badge at the centre now features red striping, as does the 'Saetta' badge on the C pillars. Restyled 20-inch alloys are lighter than the previous car's, and are finished in anthracite grey.
An upgrade for the interior comprises fine grain leather upholstery and Piano Black lacquered trim as standard. Detail changes include a small GTS badge added inside the clock set within the dash, and the driver's floor mat with a new leather insert and embroidered GTS logo.
Maserati has announced too that the MY15 Quattroporte will introduce new options and three new colours: metallic Grigio, metallescent Grigio Maratea and Bianco Alpi. The first two are shades of metallic grey.
Centennial editions of the Granturismo MC Stradale and Grancabrio MC will also make an appearance in Paris, after their unveiling in New York and Beijing earlier this year. Three new tri-coated colours – including two heritage colours, Rosso Magma and Blu Inchiostro – are added to the existing selection of four colours for the MC Stradale. Four different versions of the two wheel designs – MC and Trofeo – are offered as well, featuring the Centennial medallion logo on the boss. Buyers can specify the medallion in two colours, Matt Smoke Grey and Charcoal Grey. Interior trim materials offset the black leather seats and coordinate with the exterior colour scheme.
