Jaguar’s svelte new F-TYPE roadster has broken cover in final production guise for the first time after this single group image was leaked on a US website a week ahead of its official world debut at the Paris motor show this time next week.
Due to make its Australian debut at the Sydney motor show three weeks later, when local pricing will be announced prior to its mid-2013 release Down Under, the F-TYPE emerges faithful to the C-X16 concept that previewed it at last year’s Frankfurt motor show.
Jaguar’s long-awaited successor to the 50-year-old E-Type is seen here in three different S-badged guises, each with their fabric roofs down and each riding on different alloy wheels.
Also evident are triangular-shaped back-swept headlights underlined by boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights, a pair of vertical air-intakes either side of the chrome-surrounded grille, front quarter vents and a longitudinal bonnet dome.
Full specifications will not be announced until next week, but the images clearly show Jaguar has abandoned its traditional oval-shaped sportscar grille for the F-TYPE family, which will be expanded via a C-X16-mimicking coupe version within 12 months.
Jaguar has previously confirmed the engine line-up for its lightweight all-aluminium rear-drive two-seater will comprise three engine choices: a new 3.0-litre supercharged V6 in 250kW and 280kW tunes, plus a version of the 380kW supercharged 5.0-litre V8 that powers the XF, XJ and XK.
As we’ve previously reported, all three petrol engines will drive the rear wheels via a standard eight-speed automatic transmission fitted with a fuel-saving idle-stop system.
