Making extra capital out of its micro 500 model, Fiat will display three new variants of the Abarth model – and a one-off 'Fuore Serie' model – at next week’s Paris motor show.
Two Abarth 595 versions, “Turismo” and “Competizione”, come with a tuning kit to bump the turbo 1.4-litre engine’s power to 118kW/230Nm.
A Maserati version, the Abarth 695 Edizione Maserati, is reckoned to be more oriented in the direction of comfort and style than the 695 Tributo Ferrari 500 and has more power again (132kW/250Nm) than the 595 variants, as well as a more extensive suite of luxury gear. Fiat says the 595 Turismo is for those who want a little more style in their life, while the Competizione, somewhat over-ambitiously, is aimed at “more extreme sports enthusiasts, to the true racing purists.”
To this end, the Competizione adds to the Turismo’s engine, chassis and braking modifications with a more vocal “record Monza” exhaust system claimed to optimise torque and power delivery curves, as well as “Abarth Corse by Sabelt” sports seats. Both use an automated manual Abarth Competizione five-speed gearbox with paddle shifters.
The reworked exhaust doesn’t show in quoted power figures, but the 595 Competizione claims a 210km/h top speed and a zero to 100km/h time of 7.4 seconds, while combined fuel consumption is quoted at 5.4L/100km. The Turismo claims the same combined-cycle fuel consumption, but top speed drops to 209km/h and zero to 100km/h acceleration comes up 0.2 of a second slower, in 7.6 seconds.
At the top end is the 695 Edizione Maserati that comes with tighter suspension again, Brembo brakes and Neptune Design 7x17-inch alloy wheels wearing 205/40 R17 tyres. Its top speed is quoted at 215km/h while zero to 100km/h acceleration is the same as the Competizione at 7.4 seconds. Combined fuel consumption sneaks up to 6.5L/100km.
Sand beige leather upholstery, nine-speaker, 400-Watt Harmon Kardon audio, carbon lining on the dash, Jaeger instruments and a special Maserati Pontevecchio Bordeaux hue for the exterior are also part of the Edizione Maserati deal.
Also on the stand, Fiat will have an Abarth Fuore Serie model finished in the blue and gold livery of the works Fiat Abarth 131 that campaigned in WRC during the 1970s and 80s, to showcase the levels of customisation possible through the Fuore Serie program, which focuses on the 500 with 180hp engine and 695 badging.
