PARIS MOTOR SHOW: Maserati unleashes GranCabrio MC Stradale
Trident brand broadens its GranCabrio range with the addition of flagship drop-topMaserati’s voluptuous GranTurismo is now getting long in the tooth, having been around for more than five years, but the company has churned out a plethora of new variants in the interim to maintain buyer interest.
The latest instalment in the sequence is the muscle-bound GranCabrio MC Stradale, which borrows its hardware from the coupe version that debuted in September 2010.
To quickly recap, the MC Stradale coupe is powered by an uprated – and highly vocal – 4.7-litre V8 that kicks out 331kW, enabling it to hit a top whack of 301km/h (it was the first GranTurismo to break the 300km/h barrier).
Given its high-velocity capability, the MC Stradale is adorned with a bespoke front spoiler/splitter, while its rump is dominated by a large spoiler that boosts downforce while also incorporating a third brake light. The spoiler comes as standard in body colour, but it’s also available in an optional carbon finish.
The body modifications make the MC Stradale 48mm longer than lesser GranTurismos, with a much beefier stance thanks to its oversize wheel/tyre package.
Maserati hasn’t yet released specs or performance data but had this to say in an official update: “The new open top Maserati seamlessly blends the aggressive looks of the MC Stradale while maintaining the strengths and characteristics of a true grand tourer that has made the GranCabrio a benchmark within its class.”
The Italian company is set to announce full details of the GranCabrio MC at the Paris International Motor Show later this week. The new model is under consideration for Australia and New Zealand, but there’s as yet no indication on timing or pricing.
