PARIS MOTOR SHOW: Peugeot reskins Exalt

Revised Exalt concept shows French brand is still keen on a new luxury sedan

Peugeot has revealed a revised, European-spec version of the lanky, low-slung Exalt concept, which was first seen at the Beijing show in April and followed the similarly sexy Onyx concept shown at the 2012 Paris show.

Set to make its debut at this year's Paris show in October, the updated Exalt concept indicates Peugeot could not only be planning to launch a new luxury sedan in China, but Europe and other markets too.

The French brand's latest concept features new grey colours and interior trim produced recycled newspapers (dubbed 'Newspaper Wood'), while a new electric scooter concept dubbed Hybrid kick is fitted in the boot of the Exalt, accessed by a special tailgate opening mechanism.

The 2014 Exalt wears a partly bare-steel exterior that's also adorned with a new material called 'Shark Skin', which Peugeot says improves aerodynamics.

Under bonnet is the RCZ R's circa-200kW/300Nm 1.6-litre THP turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine, aided by a 50kW electric motor mounted on the multi-link rear axle.

Peugeot's Hybrid4 system comes with four automatic – or driver-selectable – drive modes: pure electric, pure petrol or hybrid.

The company says the Exalt – which measures 4.7 metres long but just 1.31 meters high and rides on 20-inch wheels – weighs less than 1700kg.
