Peugeot has revealed its most powerful production model ever, as part of a facelifted RCZ coupe line-up that will debut at this month’s Paris Motor Show before making its Australian premiere in Sydney on October 18.
Dubbed the RCZ R Concept and due on sale globally next year, the hottest RCZ yet was developed by the French brand’s motorsport division, Peugeot Sport.
It is powered by an even more powerful (194kW) version of the 1.6-litre THP turbo-petrol four also found in the Mini Cooper S and Citroen DS3, representing specific power output of 119kW per litre while emitting 155g/km of CO2.
In addition to the power boot, the RCZ R – which also features a number of interior and exterior design upgrades – rides on a tweaked chassis with revised suspension, a Torsen limited-slip differential and different wheels.
Not content with debuting its racy new Onyx supercar concept, 2008 crossover concept, XY and GTi versions of its upcoming 208 and the emerging-markets-only 301, Peugeot will also reveal a facelifted RCZ in Paris.
Also slated for exhibition in Sydney next month, the updated RCZ features a freshened front-end featuring a new grille, revised LED daytime running lights, reshaped headlights and new chrome bars on a lower, wider central air intake.
The RCZ’s midlife makeover will also bring new two new interior trim colour options, two new 19-inch wheel choices, a range of new personalisation options including three roof arch colours and 30 litres of extra under-boot storage space.
New standard equipment will include an acoustic windscreen, automatic wipers, automatic headlights, an electrochromatic interior mirror, guide-me-home lighting, approach lighting on unlocking and the 508’s enhanced Peugeot Connect Navigation (RT6) infotainment system.
Engine options remain unchanged and, currently, the RCZ is available in Australia with a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine outputting 115kW/240Nm with a six-speed automatic transmission and 147kW/245Nm with a six-speed manual, plus a 120kW/340Nm 2.0-litre turbodiesel matched to a six-speed manual gearbox – all of which are priced from $54,990. While the RCZ R will be released late next year, the new-look RCZ should arrive here in early 2013.
