PARIS MOTOR SHOW: Polo GTI revealed

Volkswagen issues official pics of 1.8-litre hatch – with manual gearbox and three-door body!

The long-awaited GTI flagship of the Polo range has surfaced – in pictures at least.
Overnight, Volkswagen released a batch of images for the new car, which is set to debut in Paris next month. Interestingly, the car revealed in the images is a three-door hatch, which may be cause for rejoicing among local buyers – for what it says about projected landed cost as much as the sportier appeal of its design.
As we've reported previously, the new GTI will be powered by a 1.8-litre engine good for 141kW, and torque is expected to peak around 320Nm.
But the really big news for hot hatch fanciers is the return of the manual transmission, which we've also reported in the past.
Other than the images of the Polo GTI, Volkswagen has offered no further information ahead of the global debut in Paris. The Polo GTI is due to arrive in Australia early next year.
