The MINI model line-up is set to expand Down Under. No, not with the race-aimed MINI Cooper S John Cooper Works Grand Prix limited edition (worse luck) but rather via two new models "set to buff its [MINI's] fun, cheeky character."
Announced today (Friday, November 18), the 99th anniversary of the birth of the father of the original Mini, Sir Alec Issigonis, the MINI Park Lane and MINI Checkmate will arrive Down Under in time for February 9's Melbourne Motor Show opening.
MINI Australia describes the MINI Park Lane as a "VIP lounge on wheels" while the MINI Checkmate "takes MINI sportiness to a new level." Both 'character' packs will be offered on MINI Cooper and 125kW supercharged MINI Cooper S models and feature unique paint schemes complete with a highlight silver roof.
MINI says the Park Lane is all about timeless elegance and discrete luxury.
Featuring exclusive Park Lane Royal Grey metallic paint, chrome mirrors and 16-inch alloys outside and traditionally-piped Panther Black English leather upholstered sport seats inside, the MINI Park Lane's standard equipment list also includes a duo-tone leather steering wheel and automatic climate control.
Chrome Line exterior and interior trim, Harman/Kardon HiFi with eight speakers, Xenon headlamps (on Cooper S), and as a no cost option, a new look silver bonnet stripe package, add to the Park Lane's appeal.
All this is topped off with stylish new Bridge-spoke 16-inch alloy wheels with run-flat tyres, chrome mirror caps and of course, an eye-catching silver roof.
The sportier MINI Checkmate has Space Blue metallic paint teamed with a bold chequered flag decal for the flanks and silver mirror caps. An electric glass sunroof is standard and inside there are Space Blue Checkmate cloth/leather sport seats, a sporty two-tone steering wheel and the four-gauge centre binnacle-mounted Chrono pack.
Like the MINI Park Lane, the wide silver bonnet stripes are a no cost option on Checkmate as well.
Fitted with new Flame-spoke 17-inch light alloy wheels, the MINI Cooper Checkmate model also adds the Sport Suspension Plus package. Previously, this option was restricted to supercharged MINI Cooper S models.
The John Cooper Works performance engine upgrade (154kW) is available as a factory-fit on manual Park Lane and Checkmate models.
Pricing for the MINI Park Lane and Checkmate will be announced closer to their launch.
