The Carsales Network is an unashamed fan of Subaru stuntman and DC Shoe co-founder Ken Block, and now here's a new vid featuring his good buddy Travis Pastrana that's a match for anything the Blockster has gifted us in the past.
The Puerto Rican-American motorcrosser-cum-stuntman had set himself the goal of ringing in the New Year by setting a new world record for a ramp-to-ramp jump in a rally car.
So, the plan was to launch his Red Bull Subaru WRX STI rally car off of a boat-mounted ramp, over about 75m of water, and then nail the landing onto another ramp floating on a barge.
The practice attempts apparently didn't go swimmingly, as Pastrana struggled to stick the ultra-short landing strip, but the real deal on New Year's Eve was perfect.
The 26-year-old adrenaline junkie gets the Subie beautifully airborne off the Pine Street Pier onto a floating barge anchored in Long Beach's Rainbow Harbor (in southern California), shattering the existing mark of 52.1m and establishing a new world distance record at 82.0m.
However, the best part of the vid is arguably Pastrana's celebratory backflip into the freezing water after setting the new mark.
Enough of the words...
