As the Chrysler Group continues to modernise its entire range, its popular compact SUV, the Jeep Patriot, has become the next in line to receive a thorough makeover.
Maintaining the same basic design, the revised model scores a new front and rear end treatment, lower side skirts, a revised grille design and increased ride height. Ride and handling refinements have also been made, as have a number of interior enhancements, including added standard safety gear such as stability control and (optional) side-curtain airbags.
Retaining the famed seven-slot grille, Patriot's front adds new rugged mesh to the signature intake, a more robust-looking bumper and of course, round headlamps. A front bash plate and revised foglamps round out the new frontal treatment.
In profile, the trapezoidal wheel arches are retained, sitting over newly styled 17-inch aluminium wheels. Lower panel cladding and Patriot's high beltline completes the new look.
At the rear, a new more upright mask extends lower than that of the previous model and is distinguished by chrome-tipped exhaust outlets on Limited models.
Indoors, the 2011 Patriot adds soft-touch door trims, a new centre armrest, new steering wheel with integrated cruise and audio controls, (optional) Bluetooth telephony and revised cloth trim in two different tones. Cruise control is now standard across the range while backlighting of the door switches, door locks, power window and mirror controls are also added.
Patriot is powered by a 2.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine (125kW/220Nm) which delivers a combined fuel economy figure of 8.4L/100km when mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, a continuously variable (CVT) automatic transmission available optionally returning 9.1L/100km. Both configurations feature full-time all-wheel drive.
"Patriot provides a fantastically-equipped entry point into the iconic Jeep brand, which is celebrating its 70th year," said Chrysler Australia's senior marketing manager, Dean Bonthorne.
"For 2011, Jeep Patriot is even more appealing to Australian consumers, thanks to rugged new exterior styling, interior enhancements and refinements to the suspension."
The 2011 Jeep Patriot is available in two model guises: Sport and Limited, along with a limited edition '70th Anniversary' model and is in showrooms from this week.
