Pebble Beach: Mercedes-Maybach Vision 6 Coupe leaked

Mercedes-Maybach’s all-new Vision 6 Coupe concept has been leaked online ahead of its official reveal this Friday at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance classic car festival.

Aside from the images that appeared online on US car blogs like Jalopnik, little is known about the concept other than it measures in at an imposing six metres long, features gull-wing doors and, from the looks of it, has a luxurious interior that uses the car-maker’s next-generation head-up display tech.

Reminiscent of the incredible Maybach Exelero coupe that was created in partnership with German tyre-maker Fulda back in 2004, the Vision 6 is rumoured to either come with a powerful twin-turbo V12 plug-in hybrid powertrain or do without petrol power completely and come equipped with a pure-electric powertrain.

If true, the huge coupe could come with supercar levels of acceleration.

It’s thought the Mercedes-Maybach brand could be plotting an expansion into sports cars from large limousines — potentially including one based on the new E-Class — and at least one super-SUV based on the GLS-Class.

That said, the 6 Coupe’s tagline of “The hot and cool — almost 6 metres of ultimate luxury” suggests that the large two-door will continue to be as comfortable as the extra-long Mercedes-Maybach S 600 that currently sells in Australia for $449,000.

Other reports suggest the Pebble Beach car could be used to promote the luxury German car-maker’s new special projects division that will concentrate on making bespoke cars for its wealthy owners.

More will be revealed when the Mercedes-Maybach Vision 6 Coupe is officially revealed on August 19 in California.
