Petrol-powered Audi SQ5 TFSI returns
Aussies can once again choose between petrol or diesel power for their hot Audi medium SUVAudi Australia has reintroduced the athletic SQ5 TFSI to its local portfolio, meaning premium performance SUV fans once again have the choice of diesel or petrol power for their V6 high-rider.
Priced from $119,084 plus on-road costs in wagon form and $124,315 for the swoopy Sportback, the petrol-powered 2024 Audi SQ5s match their diesel counterparts to the dollar but offer a different attitude to performance.
Whereas the gutsy TDI outputs 251kW/700Nm, the TFSI develops a peakier 260kW/500Nm and springs from 0-100km/h in a claimed 4.9 seconds – vs 5.1s – making it the quickest SQ5 variant to date, however the top speed is still capped at 250km/h.
Audi says the SQ5 TFSI’s Aussie return was spurred by strong consumer demand and that the mid-sized performance hero can be had with the $2500 Dynamic Black package which adds black 21-inch Audi Sport alloys wheels, black exterior badging, black mirrors caps, black brake callipers, black roof rails, carbon atlas interior trim accents and a massage function for the sport front seats.
Headline standard equipment meantime includes Nappa leather upholstery, adaptive dampers, a panoramic glass sunroof, metallic paint, red brake callipers, matrix LED headlights, keyless entry/start, a powered tailgate, heated fold-in mirrors with auto-dipping, tri-zone climate control, ambient lighting, digital cockpit and a head-up display to name a few.
The turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine is paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with power divvied up between the axles by a rear-biased quattro all-wheel drive system.
“Audi Australia is thrilled to announce the reintroduction of the TFSI petrol engine to the acclaimed SQ5 range for the 2025 model year,” a local spokesperson said.
“This exciting development provides customers with the unique choice of petrol or diesel power for the performance flagship, enhancing the versatility and appeal of the SQ5 lineup.”
The TFSI’s return sees the local SQ5 portfolio balloon out to four variants while the wider Q5 line-up expands from eight variants to 10.
