Peugeot e-2008 goes big with its asking price

But the small electric SUV still qualifies for the various state and territory EV incentives – just

The 2023 Peugeot e-2008 has been priced from $59,990 plus on-road costs ahead of its local arrival in the third quarter of 2023, and Peugeot Australia is now officially taking pre-orders for what will be its first battery-electric passenger vehicle or SUV.

That near-$60,000 asking price makes the e-2008 the dearest version of the small French SUV available in this market by more than $8000, and Peugeot Australia is already warning consumers of a “limited initial allocation”.

Exactly how many examples of the zero-emissions Pug we’ll see on local roads remains unclear for now, but executives are still confidant of a positive reception due to the e-2008’s mix of funky styling, practicality and eco-friendliness.

The Peugeot e-2008 is powered by a 100kW/260Nm electric motor fed by a 50kWh lithium-ion battery pack and will cover up to 328km (WLTP) on a single charge, with the modest battery able to be fast-charged from 0-80 per cent in around 30 minutes when using DC power (100kW).

Hook it up to an 11kW AC wall box and Peugeot says it will charge from empty to 100 per cent in about five hours, or seven and a half when charged at 7.4kW.

Standard equipment highlights including keyless entry with push-button start and proximity locking, a digital instrument cluster, heated front seats, power-adjustable driver’s seat with massage functions, gloss-black trim and ‘triple claw’ rear LED lights.

A powered sunroof will be optionally available.

“The e-2008 is going to be an important and eagerly anticipated addition to the local range as we continue on our electrification journey,” Peugeot Australia managing director Kate Gillis said.

“The impending arrival will signify our first fully electric passenger vehicle on sale in Australia and provides us with the opportunity to further expand on the success of the premium 2008 SUV range.

“We are confident the e-2008 will provide discerning customers with a design-focused electric SUV and it is with great excitement that pre-orders are opening today.”

‘Orange Fusion’ will be the default colour choice, however, ‘Nera Black’, ‘Artense Grey’, ‘Vertigo Blue’, ‘Elixir Red’ and ‘Pearl White’ will also be available for an extra $690-$1050.

As per the rest of the Peugeot Australia range, the e-2008 will be covered by a five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty – just as the inbound Ford Puma EV probably will be when it arrives here next year as the Pug’s biggest rival.
