Peugeot fills gap with 207 Sportium

Limited edition slots into range between 207 XR and XT variants

Peugeot is drumming up interest in the 207 small car range through a variety of different means. The importer has reduced the price of the 207 across the range and introduced standard stability control earlier this year -- 12 months ahead of the date mandated by the Victorian government.

In its latest move, Peugeot has announced a new, limited edition model, the 207 Sportium. Priced from $21,990 -- the exact mid-point between the entry-level 207 XR five-door manual ($19,990) and the upmarket 207 XT five-door ($23,990) -- the 207 Sportium will be offered with a choice of manual or auto 1.6-litre petrol variants, plus the 1.6-litre HDi diesel manual. All three variants are Euro 5-compliant, according to Peugeot.

Opting for the automatic transmission will add $2000 ($23,990 all up) to the price of the 207 Sportium petrol variant -- or the diesel can be chosen with manual transmission for $25,190. All prices are manufacturer's list prices, excluding on-road costs.

Standard features fitted comprise 16-inch Estoril alloy wheels, sports bumpers, fog lights, reverse-parking sensors, rear electric windows, leather-bound steering wheel, exclusive carpet mats, privacy glass, aluminium trim for pedals/door sills/gear knob and body-coloured side protection strips.

Buyers may specify the 207 Sportium in five colours: Bianca White, Moroccan Red metallic, Thorium Grey metallic, Aluminium Grey metallic and Onyx Black metallic.

"The introduction of the new special edition 207 Sportium hatch further emphasises the incredible value which the 207 range has come to represent for buyers looking for a premium motoring experience without actually paying a premium", said Ken Thomas, General Manager/Director for Peugeot Automobiles Australia.

"It delivers all the hallmarks of a true European car -- such as dynamic style, high safety standard equipment including ESP, six airbags and ABS and a rewarding driving experience -- at a price that's very competitive in today's automotive market."
