Forget the '5 by Peugeot' concept seen at the Geneva motor show -- this could be the car that really puts the French car maker on the map.
Built in Brazil, the aptly named Hoggar micro pick up is based on the Brazilian market Peugeot 207 (which happens to be based on the European 206).
Confusing yes, but the design warrants a closer inspection, showing off a casual Euro-chic front end, while the rear is all business. It is the automotive equivalent of the mullet hairstyle.
With the lack of micro utes in Australia after such classic vehicles as the Proton Jumbuck, Subaru Brumby and Suzuki Mighty Boy ceased production, the Peugeot Hoggar could well fill a niche for the French automaker in this country.
Peugeot Australia spokesperson Richard Grant told the Carsales Network "In reality I would doubt it will [come to Australia]". He added that because the Hoggar is built in left-hand drive in Brazil, the chances of it coming Down Under are slim.
The micro ute or compact pick-up truck market in Brazil is very lucrative, one of the reasons Peugeot developed the Hoggar. It has a maximum payload of 742kg and tray space of around 1150 litres.
Power for the tiny ute comes from either a 1.4- or a 1.6-litre fuel-flex four-cylinder engine.
