Peugeot teases concept coupe

New four-seat prototype sports coupe to debut at Beijing motor show

Peugeot has confirmed it will launch a new concept car at the 2014 Beijing motor in April, a four-seater sports coupe that "is a tease of the Brand’s future design," says the French car maker.

Though the preview silhouette of the new concept car leaves much to the imagination, it's clear the new model has a performance bent. With a low-slung stance, long bonnet, raked coupe-like roofline, large wheels and an integrated rear spoiler, the concept's muscular proportions are designed to turn heads.

Measuring 4.73 metres long and just 1.31 metres tall, the concept car is slightly longer and lower than the Audi A5 coupe, and Peugeot says the concept will deliver "athletic and refined styling for four passengers and their luggage".

Smaller details, such as the Audi-esque headlights and exposed rectangular brake lights are visible, and these smaller touches are more likely to influence future Peugeot designs than the overall idea of a large sports coupe.

Peugeot's upcoming concept car is a follow-up to the stunning Onyx Concept which was first shown at the 2012 Paris motor show, a carbon-fibre and polished copper creation that looked more Lamborghini than Pug.

Like that show car, this new concept will make use of high-end materials inside and out, and again appears to eschew traditional wing mirrors. It's likely to use cameras instead.

The European car company has not disclosed what power source will motivate the new concept car, but Peugeot isn't known for hulking large-capacity engines. Expect a hi-po diesel or perhaps a turbo-petrol hybrid engine.

The Beijing motor show commences on April 20, 2014.
