Peugeot's 'big cat' unveiled in Paris

Set to star on the company's stand at the bi-annual Paris Motor Show, the four-seater carbon-chassised gran tourismo features a rear-mounted 700hp (515kW) V12 turbodiesel engine.

Dubbed the 908 RC, the concept utilises a cab-forward layout and extensive glazing to ensure driver and passengers are: "truly at one with the road and the passing landscape".

The ambience inside the 908 RC is the result of meticulous attention to detail on the part of the car's designers.

Says Peugeot: "The special shape of the huge front windscreen allows a completely unimpeded field of vision. The front windscreen stretches back behind the driver's head, as far as the B/C post where the glazed roof begins. This gives both front and rear passengers a sense of being at one with the outside environment."

The 908 delivers four separate seats and the cabin features dark oak surrounds, integral amethyst-grey leather trim, polished aluminium inserts, touches of chrome, and a Bell&Ross clock.

All vehicle functions (radio, MP3 player, satellite navigation, four-zone air conditioning, etc) are controlled by touch screen -- also accessible to the rear passengers.

The 908 rolls on large diameter 20-spoke alloy wheels (20-inch at the front, 21-inch at the rear) and features race-spec ceramic composite brakes.

The company (whose insignia incorporates a lion) says the overall effect is that of a big cat. Lighting is via LED and the blue/black metallic paintwork should shine up a treat on the show stand.

Under the skin, the 908's 5.5-litres V12 features an unusual 100-degree V-angle. It's mated to an electronically controlled sequential six-speed gearbox which is located under the engine. Peugeot says this packaging allows benefits such as a large-capacity boot, situated behind the final drive assembly.
