The battery-electric Polestar 2 and the latest Volvo models will soon receive an over-the-air update that will introduce Amazon Prime Video.
Set to be introduced globally, the update will be applicable to all Polestar 2 models and Volvos that run Google’s Android Automotive that was launched back in 2019.
Importantly, users will only be able to stream videos when their vehicle is parked or charging and not on the move.
The YouTube app joins Waze, EasyPark, AccuWeather, Range Assistant, Journey Log and even a Performance enhancement for Polestar 2 dual-motor EVs.
Until now, owners had to stream videos via the Vivaldi web browser, which will continue for the services that still don’t offer an in-car app.
The incoming Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 will both feature the full suite of apps, although the new video streaming capability will be broadcast on an all-new huge 14.5-inch portrait-mounted infotainment system.
Volvo, meanwhile, says any model that has Google built-in will receive the update, except those in China, South Korea and Vietnam.
Available to download from Google Play, the over-the-air update will be rolled out market-to-market from September 18.
“The successful launch and integration of Android Automotive OS in Polestar 2 has proven that we can leverage the best navigation and voice control in the business to make life with a Polestar easier,” said Polestar boss Thomas Ingenlath.
“The Google Play store has also gained a rich variety of apps that offer interactivity and entertainment, from playing games to streaming series.”
