Polestar has officially launched the online sales platform for its first Australian model, the Polestar 2.
The all-electric Swedish marque, which is a sister brand to Volvo under Chinese conglomerate Geely, announced the opening of local Polestar 2 customer reservations in the lead-up to first deliveries arriving in February 2022.
At the same time, Polestar Australia also announced that test drives have commenced in Sydney for the Polestar 2, with separate ‘roadshow’ events due to take place in Melbourne and the Gold Coast from December, and Brisbane from February 2022.
Instead of a traditional dealership sales model, Polestar plans to establish permanent Polestar Spaces and Destinations in 2022.
As with all Tesla vehicles and Hyundai’s IONIQ brand, prospective Australian Polestar buyers can only place their order online via a $500 refundable deposit.
Pre-configured vehicles – those with selected colours and certain options – will be delivered from February, Polestar says. However, customers desiring their own colour combinations and/or optional packages won’t have their orders filled until May 2022 at the earliest.
In any case, Polestar Australia boss Samantha Johnson said she is pleased with initial interest in the Polestar 2, which is set to take on Australia’s top-selling EV, <a href="http://<the Tesla Model 3, with an identical $59,900 (plus on-road costs) opening price – albeit with some key equipment missing as standard.
“The demand we’re seeing for Polestar 2 test drives Australia-wide has exceeded even our most ambitious estimates, which is testament to the growing interest in electric vehicles locally, and the need for greater consumer choice in the market,” Johnson said.
“The roadshow will offer customers their first physical experience of the Polestar brand, both in the manner that the events are activated to the exacting standards found in our bespoke Polestar Spaces and Destinations globally, and, of course, in getting to know the outstanding Polestar 2.”
The Polestar 2 was recently awarded Highly Commended in the 2021 carsales Car of the Year awards and is the first of four new models from the car-maker between now and 2025.
