Polestar has released a new over-the-air performance boost update for all European owners of the 2021 Polestar 2 Long-Range Dual-Motor electric car that adds an extra 50kW and 20Nm of torque.
Previewed earlier this year at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the software upgrade boosts total power and torque to 350kW and 680Nm.
Claimed to improve acceleration between 70km/h and 130km/h, Polestar says the 0-100km/h time falls to just 4.4 seconds – 0.3sec quicker than stock.
The 80-120km/h dash also shrinks to just 2.2 seconds, around half a second quicker than previously.
Those performance figures close the gap between the Polestar 2 Long-Range Dual-Motor and the Tesla Model 3 Long Range, although the Tesla still beats its Sino-Swedish opposition when it comes to range, covering up to a WLTP-verified 614km compared to the Polestar 2's 480km.
Sadly, the extra performance doesn't come for free. In the UK, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Finland, Denmark, Germany and Austria, where it's being rolled out first, the upgrade is priced from €1000 ($A1600).
Commenting on the new power pack, Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath said: "The upgrade highlights how connected technologies can transform the relationship a car company has with its customers.
"The driving experience in Polestar 2 is something we are really proud of. It is such a fun car to drive already, but with this upgrade we can offer even more to our customers who might be after a little extra excitement."
Polestar has confirmed the upgrade will be rolled out to other markets, with owners in the US and Canada offered the power boost during the second quarter of 2022. It's thought Australian buyers will get the over-the-air upgrade later next year.
