The Polestar 2 has been tweaked yet again, with this latest MY25 upgrade comprising a new battery for the entry-level version of the electric fastback sedan, bringing more range, faster charging and some subtle design alterations.
The 2025 Polestar 2’s biggest upgrade is the addition of a new 70kWh CATL battery pack for the base Standard Range Single Motor variant, which ups its maximum range from 518km to 554km on the WLTP cycle with the help of some new aero wheels.
Not only does the new battery offer more capacity and efficiency, it also yields faster charging times thanks to a significant increase in its DC fast-charging capabilities, from 135kW to 180kW, although the exact 10-80 per cent charging time is yet to be confirmed.
However, the kicker is that Australian-delivered Polestar 2 cars won’t be fitted with it. Instead, they will retain the existing 69kWh battery when MY25 vehicles arrive here late in the third quarter of this year, because Polestar says the new battery is being reserved for Europe only at this stage.
So Aussie buyers will have to settle for the 2025 Polestar 2’s more subtle upgrades, including revised aero wheel designs for all variants that add up to 5km of range, animal welfare-secured charcoal Nappa leather upholstery for certain variants and a new gold-striped seatbelt design for the new Pro Pack.
The updated Polestar 2 will also come with a bigger array of option packs, like the Climate Pack (heat pump, heated rear seats, heated steering wheel and heated washer fluid nozzles) and Pro Pack (20-inch wheels and Swedish Gold detailing on the seatbelts and tyre valve caps), both of which join the existing Pilot Pack, Plus Pack and Performance Pack.
Two new exterior paint colours – Vapour and Storm – have been added to the MY25 palette, replacing the Magnesium and Thunder hues.
Sales of the existing Polestar 2 are down a significant 70.5 per cent so far this year, with just 264 units delivered as of May 31 (compared to 896 over the same period last year), which is much less than its two biggest rivals: the Tesla Model 3 (8823) and BMW i4 (861).
However, the Polestar 2 is doing better on the sales charts than the Hyundai IONIQ 6, which has chalked up just 199 sales.
Australian pricing for the updated 2025 Polestar 2 range will be announced closer to its local arrival.
