The luxurious new 2025 Polestar 5 electric saloon has been unveiled at the Munich motor show ahead of its arrival in Australia mid-2026 in two variants with pricing for both coming in under $200,000 before on-road costs.
The covers have come off Polestar’s latest flagship in Munich this week, with the Chinese-Swedish luxury brand showcasing its new Polestar 5 luxury saloon, a sleek four-door styled to look like an aircraft wing, with jet-like acceleration to match, in top-spec Performance form.
Aimed directly at the Audi e-tron GT, BMW i5 and Porsche Taycan, pricing starts at $171,100 for the Dual Motor Polestar 5, which itself is blessed with plenty of shove, while the Performance is set to start from $198,100 plus on-roads.
The Dual Motor makes 550kW/812Nm and accelerates from 0-100km/h in an impressive 3.9 seconds, while the Performance punches out a whopping 650kW/1015Nm and claims a scorching 3.2 sec 0-100km/h time.
On the flipside of the performance coin, the P5 combines a 112kWh NMC battery pack with an 800V architecture.
The Dual Motor claims a 670km range (WLTP), while the Performance drops to 565km. Helping extend range, the rear motor of the Polestar 5 can disconnect for more economic running.
DC fast charging is up to 350kW, to offer a 10-80 per cent refill in as little as 22 minutes, while AC charging tops out at 11kW, meaning a 0-100 per cent recharge will take around 11 hours.
Despite an aluminium chassis and body, the P5 weighs in at a porky 2500kg (approximately).
Nevertheless, Polestar has high driving expectations for its new flagship, claiming higher torsional rigidity than a two-seat sports car or supercar, thanks in part to its compact double wishbone suspension front and rear, lightweight two-piece alloy-belled front disc brakes with Brembo four-piston calipers, a steering rack placed ahead of the front axle and adaptive dampers for the Performance.
The cabin comes set-up to carry passengers in individual powered, heated and massaging outboard seats. A fifth passenger can be accommodated in the centre-rear at a squeeze.
A 14.5-inch centre infotainment display running a Polestar-specific Android Automotive operating system also comes standard, along with a nine-inch digital instrument cluster mounted on the steering column and a 9.5-inch head up display.
Comfort equipment includes quad-zone climate control and 10-speaker audio system, while 21-speaker Bowers & Wilkins system with active noise cancellation can be had for an extra $8800.
Being a Polestar, there’s a strong emphasis on safety, renewables and recyclability, with natural fibre materials used throughout the interior, including Microtech vegan seat upholstery and a bio-based alternative to carbon-fibre trim made from flax.
The P5 monitors its surroundings via 11 vision cameras, one driver monitoring camera, one mid-range radar and 12 ultrasonic sensors.
Orders are now open for the Polestar 5 ahead of deliveries mid-2026.
It will join the 2, 3 and 4 in the line-up as the brand’s first bonafide passenger car. The small Polestar 7 SUV is next up in 2028, bumping the Polestar 6 sports car down the order.
