Polestar has announced its future pure-electric models will no longer carry 'Volvo' badging, ending a direct link with the Swedish car maker which goes back more than 20 years.
Posting a single 'The End' image on Instagram, the performance sub-brand called 'time' on its collaboration with the Swedish car maker which began in motorsport in 1996.
Mirroring Toyota and Lexus, or Nissan and Infiniti, behind the scenes Volvo and Polestar will continue to share resources including platforms and pure-electric hardware, but the shift in direction marks the end of the 'Polestar Engineered' brand.
Nevertheless, Polestar's dealer-fit performance-enhancing parts program for regular Volvo models is expected to continue.
The announcement Polestar would become a high-performance pure-electric brand was made back in May.
It's thought Polestar will reveal its future product plans within a matter of weeks and rumours suggest a powerful 450+kW coupe will debut its new pure-electric technology.
