The elegant Polestar Precept battery-electric four-door coupe has been caught in pre-production form for the first time.
But it wasn’t our spy photographers who outed the 2024 Polestar Precept.
Instead, Polestar itself issued a pic in a media prelease promoting its newly-established UK research and development facilities.
The Swedish-Chinese subsidiary of Geely – with strong Volvo links – launches in Australia with its first electric car, the Polestar 2, in November.
The Polestar 3 SUV should follow in 2023, with the Precept due “before 2025”, according to the Polestar release.
The Precept is shown at Polestar’s UK facility without front-end bodywork and surrounded by engineers.
It is not identified in the image but it’s clearly the Tesla Model S rival, which the UK team is focusing on developing.
Notable changes from the concept include the swap from suicide to conventional rear doors and the replacement of cameras with side mirrors.
Promisingly, it looks like the exterior design fundamentals have been retained.
“Precept is a statement of intent for the brand in terms of design, technology and sustainability,” said head of Polestar UK R&D Pete Allen.
“The production car will take an important step on the journey towards climate neutrality, and ours will be the team that delivers that.”
The current plan is to build the Precept in China. It will utilise the same Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) 2 platform that’ll underpin the Polestar 3 and next-generation Volvo XC90, which will be all-electric only as well.
No powertrain details have been revealed about the Precept as yet.
Meanwhile, Polestar boss Thomas Ingenlath told media at the Munich motor show the Polestar 3 will only have two rows of seats, ensuring separation from the XC90.
It will also come with a choice of single and dual powertrains, as per the Polestar 2, with the higher-spec version offering more performance than the XC90.
