Polestar has announced its first vehicle, following the split with Volvo, will be simply called the 'No.1'.
The name was included in a video released ahead of the coupe's global launch tomorrow.
Polestar uses the video as a pseudo statement of intent, the Swedish performance brand explaining it will provide "no overpromising", "no shortcuts" and "no compromises" when developing and selling its future range of cars.
Intriguingly, Polestar is still yet to confirm whether the car emerging from under the drapes in Shangai, China, will be a concept or production-ready vehicle.
Already rumoured to be a luxurious new rival for the Lexus LC or Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe, from a picture puzzle released by Polestar a few weeks back, the so-called No.1 appears to be heavily inspired by the glamorous Volvo Concept Coupe unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt motor show.
The C-shaped rear tail lights, for example, look directly lifted from the show car.
Beneath the skin, it’s thought Polestar’s debut standalone model will be underpinned by Volvo’s medium-to-large Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform shared by the XC90 and S90/V90.
The Polestar coupe is likely to employ a development of the Volvo XC90 T8’s turbocharged/supercharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, although, combined with a more powerful electric motor, total output is expected to climb to around 450kW.
We'll have the full story early tomorrow.
