Polestar to reveal No.1 coupe this evening

Another day, another tease of sporty Swedish brand's new coupe

Polestar's jigsaw unveil of its first-ever standalone model is almost complete after more pieces of the picture puzzle were revealed overnight ahead of its unveiling late this evening in Shanghai.

Simply called the No.1, the all-new coupe -- at least from the rear -- looks heavily inspired by the stylish Volvo Concept Coupe that was unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt motor show.

This means that, despite its declaration it was making a break from Volvo, Polestar's first car, which is set to rival cars like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe and the Lexus LC, will draw heavy styling influences from both the S90 and V90.

It's not yet known if the car Polestar will reveal will be ready for production or simply a concept.

In any case, beneath the skin, the No.1 is almost certain to be pure Volvo -- based both on Volvo's medium-to-large Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform that's already used for the XC90, S90 and V90.

Under the bonnet, it's rumoured the new coupe will also get a development of the powertrain used in the XC90 T8 with power wound up to around 450kW.

That means it will use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder that is both supercharged and turbocharged and combined with at least one powerful electric motor.

Stay tuned for the full story later today.
