Volkswagen Polo beats sounds like a big deal

Volkswagen spearheads new Polo range with beats-labelled audio upgrade

Volkswagen is sounding off about its new Polo 6 range. And the new big deal is the Polo 'beats' – an audiophile’s city-car siren, the company suggests.

Volkswagen Polo beats is a special edition of the new light car that goes on sale in August, and will be offered in both manual and automatic (DSG twin-clutch) versions from $22,490 (plus on road costs).

The big news is the Polo beats sound system which, the company claims pumps out “300 killer watts”.

The beats audio brand was founded in 2006 by rapper Dr Dre and Jimmy Iovine and acquired by Apple in 2014.

The previous-generation Polo beats was a sell-out locally, claims Volkswagen Australia (“In a league my own, you ain’t even made it up to my throne"). In the new Polo, the beats’ audio set-up is designed to “provide reverberating but crystalline sound”.

The new Polo beats is based on the 85TSI Comfortline and features a 1.0-litre three cylinder turbo-petrol engine rated at 85kW and 200Nm.

The car also debuts Volkswagen’s second-generation ‘Active Info’ display, now on a 10.25-inch screen which “can be configured with a choice of readouts and full screen map”.

Three colour options are offer in the Polo beats -- no-cost red, optional ($500) white/silver metallic or deep pearl black. The Polo beats is ‘trademarked’ by a single bonnet stripe, badging, decorative dash inserts, two-tone upholstery and 16-inch alloys. Impressive? “Would you look over Picasso’s shoulder and tell him about his brush strokes?”

A Driver Assistance Pack including Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitor and Park Assist is offered at $1400.

“We hear a great deal about car-makers pursuing a ‘younger’ demographic. This usually amounts to a basic car in jellybean colours. We don’t have to make a noise about the Polo beats because its message to aspirational buyers is loud and clear,” an ‘on-message’ Volkswagen Group Australia Managing Director Michael Bartsch stated.
