In the face of an Aussie dollar approaching 90 cents US, Pontiac has settled on a starting price of $27,595 for the G8 V6.
G8 is the Holden Commodore VE with Pontiac styling cues and sporting overtones (more here). The entry-level G8 equates to the Commodore SV6 and features both the 3.6-litre DOHC Alloytech engine built at Fishermans Bend and the five-speed automatic transmission to match.
For $2400 extra ($29,995), American buyers can opt for the G8 GT, which is the V8 version of the car, powered by the same 6.0-litre all-alloy V8 as the Commodore SS and driving through that car's six-speed automatic.
Bringing the V8 version of the G8 into the American market and keeping the price under US$30,000 has been a coup for Pontiac, but may cause some distress in Australia, with the same car as an SV6 auto priced at $40,990.
Colours available for the American market car will be Stealth Blue metallic, Liquid Red, Ignition Orange Metallic, White Hot, Magentic Grey metallic and Panther Black metallic.
