Porsche 718 Cayman T and 718 Boxster T revealed

Stripped-back variants follow in the wheel tracks of the 911 T

Porsche has revealed purer variants of the 718 Cayman and 718 Boxster, to be known as the 718 T, or Touring.

Following in the wheel tracks of the larger 911 T first unveiled in 2017, the 718 T pairing is set to offer a stripped-back, lighter ethos compared with their donor cars.

As it stands, Australia allocation of the duo is unclear.

Weight on the Cayman T has been whittled down as low as 1350kg, courtesy of revisions including a streamlined infotainment system and nylon straps in place of door handles.

This is despite the addition of an emissions-dropping exhaust particulate filter on the T’s 2.0-litre turbo-four engine, which offers 221kW/380Nm. Nought to 100km/h is achieved in 4.9 seconds in manual guise.

The equivalent automatic is capable of notching 0-100km/h in 4.5 seconds when equipped with a new launch control function, the car-maker says.

Elsewhere, the T models score Porsche’s enhanced PASM sport chassis, which lowers ride height by 20mm, shorter ratios and rev-matching on the standard six-speed manual gearbox and Porsche’s Sport Chrono pack, which brings three switchable drive modes.

A torque vectoring system with a mechanical rear differential is also fitted, along with a sports exhaust with black chrome tips and active gearbox mounts.

Grey mirror caps, 20-inch alloys and unique badging adorn the car’s exterior.

Inside the cabin, the T models feature a sports steering wheel, bespoke gauges and sports seat, and requisite T-themed badging.

Buyers can choose to re-install the infotainment system if they so wish. Otherwise, a storage compartment takes its place.

Porsche Cars Australia is yet to confirm Australian arrival details.

“At the moment we’re definitely considering the car for Australia but we can’t confirm anything at this stage,” a spokeswoman said.
