Porsche 911 Shooting Brake is mad

If you thought the 911 Speedster was different, check out this 911 hatchback

The Porsche 911 has taken many forms over the years, from the Speedster to the Targa and of course the Cabriolet.

But the automotive icon has never been seen as a shooting brake.

Until now.

Graphic artist Rain Prisk has created the Porsche 911 Shooting Brake, a vehicle that is currently a computer-generated fantasy but could certainly enter the realms of reality one day.

There is a precedent, after all, with the four-door Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo. The Panamera wagon shows that you can take a visually offensive rump and make it attractive.

But does this logic apply in reverse?

If you take a Porsche 911 and transmogrify it into a shooting brake, does a tasty tail become repulsive? You be the judge.

Behold the Porsche 911 hatch!

Arguments for the Porsche 911 Shooting Brake include a bit more luggage room, although how the rear-mounted six-cylinder boxer engine is incorporated into the boot would pose an interesting design quandary… and whether it liberates more room is an interesting – if hypothetical – question.

Let's assume this machine is designed for ski trips to the Swiss alps and features the all-wheel drive Carrera 4S powertrain. If based on the current Porsche 992-series 911, its 3.0-litre turbo-petrol flat six would grind out around 331kW and 530Nm via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Fast? Yes, although the raised rear-end would add more glass, metal and weight, so the 3.6sec 0-100km/h sprint time of the Carrera S may drop to by a tenth or two.

If you find it appealing, what would you pay for a unique limited-edition creation like this? More than the Porsche 911 Speedster's $604,800?
