Following a two-year hiatus, the Porsche Carrera Cup Australia (PCCA) makes a return in 2011 as the primary support series for the V8 Supercar Championship.
Featuring Porsche GT3 Cup cars, the 2011 PCCA series kicks off at the Qantas Australian Grand Prix held at Melbourne's Albert Park between March 24 and March 27 in what is described as the "world's fastest one-make sports car series."
PCCA support events on the 2011 calendar for the V8 Supercars will also be held at venues including Bathurst, Gold Coast and Homebush.
The Carrera Cup first came to Australia in 2003 with the 911 Type 993 GT3 Cup and segued to the Type 997 GT3 Cup in 1996. The series was cancelled in 2009 due to a shortage of competitors.
However, according to Porsche Cars Australia's head of motorsport, Jamey Blaikie: "Next year's series will be better, more exciting and more affordable than before with a mix of new talent and experienced Porsche racers."
Porsche introduced its latest 911 GT3 Cup in October, complete with 3.8-litre, 331kW boxer engine, plenty of aero appurtenances including a wider rear wing and a Corolla-like weight of just 1200kg.
The 911 GT3 Cup is billed as the best-selling racer of all time, with more than 1400 built since 1998.
