Could Porsche have a diesel V8 Cayenne in its future? US magazine Car & Driver thinks so. The well-regarded publication reported recently that Porsche is believed to be working on such a variant for the Cayenne range.
It's not clear whether the new variant would be powered by the existing Audi 4.2-litre unit offered in the A8; the magazine suggests Porsche might develop a new engine to be shared with Bentley, should the British brand choose to go with a suitable diesel for its own model range.
Paul Ellis, Public Relations Manager for Porsche Cars Australia told motoring.com.au that in the event that such a vehicle should ever become available — and it would seem to be a natural choice for Australian Porsche buyers — PCA would certainly consider importing it.
"We always look at opportunities," he said, but beyond speaking hypothetically Ellis had nothing to say. "I know it's been mooted, but I haven't heard anything more than that."
The rumour is one that "has been out there in circulation for a while," he said.
