Porsche Cayman-based Ruf CTR3 Evo unleashed

Famed German tuner Ruf Automobile has unwrapped the Ruf CTR3 Evo at the 2023 Monterey Car Week – an even wilder take on its mid-engined Porsche Cayman-based Ruf CTR3 it first introduced back in 2007.

Picking up where the Ruf CTR3 Clubsport last left off in 2012, the new CTR3 Evo brings major styling, chassis and performance upgrades.

Featuring a body made of lightweight Kevlar, the Ruf GTR3 Evo sports a Porsche 911 (997 series) front-end and more pronounced fenders, while redesigned round tail-lights are found at the back.

Below them is a large diffuser made of carbon-fibre that houses the quad exhaust pipes, and instead of a rear windscreen there’s a vented engine cover.

Under that rear boot lid is an upgraded twin-turbo 3.8-litre flat-six engine that has had power ramped up to 588kW and torque boosted to 990Nm.

It combines with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic as standard, while a six-speed manual is also available.

There’s no word on acceleration, but the original GTR3 Clubsport could launch from 0-100km/h in just 3.2 seconds and top out at 380km/h.

To rein in its enhanced performance, the most powerful Ruf ever gets 381mm front carbon-ceramic disc brakes that are clamped down by yellow six-piston callipers.

The new Evo comes with Ruf’s new 20-inch five-spoke centre-lock alloy wheels that are finished in blue.

Set to be produced in limited numbers, the new Ruf GTR3 Evo is rumoured to be priced from $US725,000 ($A1.1m).
