Just as Porsche confirmed it would in October when the standard road-going Cayman GT4 was launched in Australia, Porsche has revealed a motorsport version called the Clubsport.
The bad news is Porsche Cars Australia has confirmed the hard-core racer will not be available here, although it has not ruled out the possibility of a street-legal RS model that borrows some of the Clubsport's components.
"We already have over 100 active Porsche GT race cars participating in motorsport in Australia in everything from club level to highest professional level in Carrera Cup," said PCA in a statement.
"For the size of our market this is currently enough Porsche GT racing cars. Therefore, after careful consideration, PCA has decided to keep the status quo and not take the GT4 Clubsport."
Powered by the same mid-mounted 283kW/420Nm 3.8-litre boxer six as the standard Cayman GT4, the Clubsport adds a host of race-ready components, making it the most focussed Cayman ever.
Instead of the standard GT4's six-speed manual transmission, the racer comes with a modified six-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission with shift paddles and a mechanical rear differential lock designed specifically for racing.
A lighter new strut front axle is taken from the 911 GT3 Cup that competes in 20 one-make Porsche championships around the world, as is an enhanced lightweight rear strut suspension with transverse arms.
As in the standard GT4, there are 911 GT3-sourced 380mm brake discs all round with six-piston callipers up front, but the anti-lock system features 12 settings and the stability control system is recalibrated for Michelin racing slicks on 18-inch five-bolt forged wheels.
Weighing just 1300kg, the stripped-out Cayman GT4 Clubsport is a turn-key race car, delivered from the factory with an FIA-spec welded-in safety cage and a racing bucket seat with six-point harness.
The weigh-saving should see it his 100km/h in less than four seconds (the standard GT4 does it in a claimed 4.4).
The North American version comes with a 70-litre fuel tank as standard, with the option of 100 litres capacity, plus a central fire extinguisher system.
As in Europe, the Clubsport racecar is available directly from Porsche Motorsport in North America, where the price is $US165,000 ($A230,000). The standard Cayman GT4 costs $189,900 here.
