Just as we said it would last September, Porsche has entered the hire car business in Australia for the first time.
Open for business from today ahead of first loans from next week (Monday, February 14), Porsche Drive Rental’s Australian operations follow the success of the ‘premium car rental service’ in Germany since 2014 and a total of 60 locations in Europe, North America and Japan.
That means Australians can now book a Porsche 911 Carrera 4S coupe, 718 Boxster S roadster or Taycan 4S electric sedan for a day, weekend or week, but there are several caveats.

First, as we reported last year, Porsche Drive Rental is available only in Melbourne – with collection via Porsche Centre Melbourne courtesy of a dedicated Porsche Drive Rental valet – as part of an initial six-month pilot program to evaluate local demand.
And, as expected, the service doesn’t come cheap.
The day rate for Porsche’s performance flagship, the 911, is a cool $911, while the Taycan (also in all-wheel drive 4S spec) will set you back almost as much at $899.

The Boxster S is the cheapest model available, at $718 per day.
Unsurprisingly, the pilot program includes just those three sports cars and not Porsche SUVs like the Macan and Cayenne.
To reserve your booking, customers need to create a profile online at porsche.com.au/drive, then choose their rental period and their preferred Porsche model, before collecting and returning their car on the scheduled dates.

Porsche Cars Australia managing director Daniel Schmollinger said the local introduction of the long-established Porsche Drive Rental service is ideal for people who want casual access to a Porsche sports car or the chance to experience their dream ride.
“Porsche Drive Rental is the latest example of us introducing innovative products to the Australian market,” he said.
“This pilot program in Melbourne will give us tremendous insights into how we evolve this offering in Australia in future years.”
