The outgoing Porsche Macan GTS left rather big shoes to fill. Not only did it pack a lusty twin-turbo V6, but dynamically it was one of only a handful of performance SUVs to reach the hallowed status of being a ‘hot hatch on stilts’. Now, the 2026 iteration is lumped with the task of meeting that benchmark as well as living up to the GTS moniker – with the weight of an all-electric drivetrain. Thankfully, the electrified Macan gains a few tweaks to aid its cause, but is it enough?

How much does the Porsche Macan GTS cost?

Despite seeming like a mainstay nameplate, the Macan is only in its second generation. As has been well documented, the difficult follow-up album hasn’t hit all the right chords with the German marque’s fanbase.

It’s as if the popular premium SUV is now playing an alien tune, with monthly VFACTS sales a shadow of what they once were.

The 2026 Porsche Macan GTS is an attempt by the brand to riff back to the first generation’s impressive performance variant. Of course, this time around it’s a very different kettle of fish, with dual electric motors and a 100kWh battery pack in place of the howling, Audi RS4-sharing 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6.

And the petrol-powered version was about $30,000 cheaper to buy.

The GTS is now $171,100 and sits one rung below the top-spec $187,600 Turbo, with the range starting at $129,800 for the single-motor, rear-wheel drive base model. The dual-motor 4 and 4S ($137,600 and $149,300 respectively) fill out the five-strong line-up.

As for rivals, if performance is your bent, the significantly cheaper Hyundai IONIQ 5 N will certainly fill that role, but without the premium appeal. Then there are the Germans, like the box-fresh BMW iX3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC. Although, the ludicrously fast Polestar 3 Performance offers 500kW for less cash, too.

As do the Tesla Model Y Performance and Zeekr 7X Performance.

In terms of aftersales care, the Macan GTS is covered by Porsche’s three-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty – which is less than the industry average in 2026. The battery pack gains an eight-year/160,000km warranty, while servicing is every two years or 30,000km, whichever comes first.

What equipment comes with the Porsche Macan GTS?

Externally, the 2026 Porsche Macan GTS is differentiated by the SportDesign Package, pronounced rear diffuser panel, tinted Matrix LED headlights and LED taillights with a full-length light bar, as well as 21-inch alloys.

It also gains high-gloss Black touches that include the mirror caps, side window trims, side blades, including the GTS logo, lower rear apron and wheel-arch covers with SportDesign side skirts.

There’s ‘PORSCHE’ in matt Black across the tailgate and model-designation logos tastefully dotted outside and inside the cabin. Speaking of which, the interior receives widespread use of Race-Tex, with the material joining black, red and brushed-aluminium accents.

Adaptive Sports seats with 18-way power adjustment and memory settings feature, as do front-seat heating, quad-zone climate control, a powered tailgate, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting and proximity-based keyless entry.

Being a press vehicle, a host of options are fitted – too many to list. The big hitters include the $10,730 GTS Interior Package in Carmine Red, which also includes a carbon pack and the Race-Tex-cloaked multifunction GT sports steering wheel with heating and carbon inlays. Essentially, it’s a 911 tiller in your EV SUV.

Other noteworthy box ticks include the 22-inch RS Spyder Design wheels in Anthracite Gray ($4860), rear-axle steering ($3510), augmented-reality head-up display ($4120), passenger display ($2810), as well as various parts covered in Race-Tex and coloured decorative stitching.

All told, ‘our’ Macan GTS packs $38,010 in add-ons, meaning the as-tested price before on-road costs is $209,110 – ouch.

Ten of the 14 paints available are no-cost options.

How safe is the Porsche Macan GTS?

While the 2026 Porsche Macan GTS, and the range, hasn’t been crash-tested by ANCAP, the electrified second generation achieved a five-star rating from Euro NCAP in 2024.

It includes a host of active systems like autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian, cyclist and junction detection, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, cross-traffic alert, driver attention monitoring and road sign recognition.

A 360-degree monitor aids all-round vision in tight spaces, while a reversing camera and parking sensors are standard. Our test car comes with Park Assist, 3D Surround View and Porsche Entry for $1000.

All Macans house eight airbags, dual ISOFIX points and a trio of top-tether anchorages.

What technology does the Porsche Macan GTS feature?

Yes, it isn’t standard fitment, but the augmented-reality head-up display is the talking point of the 2026 Porsche Macan GTS.

In short, it can be disorientating, with some drivers even reporting initial signs of travel sickness while using it. Essentially, it moves laterally with your steering inputs and grows or shrinks elements, namely your road speed, depending on brake or accelerator inputs.

On top of this, it adds dynamic elements for road markings and surrounding cars or objects. The augmentation function can be switched off, as can the head-up system entirely. Test it for yourself before ticking the options box.

Other than that, the GTS follows the Macan script by delivering sizeable screen acreage. The central infotainment touch-screen is on the smaller side at 10.9 inches, but the 12.6-inch curved instrument cluster is polished, with customisable arrangements.

The 10.9-inch passenger display seems like an inconsequential option at first. However, it affords passengers access to navigation and infotainment functions that can’t be seen by the driver. And thanks to the Android Automotive-based operating system and Porsche Communication Management (PCM), it also means they can watch YouTube on the move.

Other standard kit includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charging pad, ‘Hey Porsche’ voice commands, DAB+ digital radio, inbuilt sat-nav with AC and DC charging options and range predictions, USB-C ports and high-end 14-speaker BOSE audio.

The Macan can also receive over-the-air (OTA) updates and has connected services for things like remote access and charge status.

What powers the Porsche Macan GTS?

The 2026 Porsche Macan GTS might be a whisker shy of 2.4 tonnes, but it’s no slouch.

Thanks to two permanent magnet synchronous motors – one on each axle to create all-wheel drive – the GTS is packed with 380kW and a colossal 955Nm. With overboost and launch control enabled, the kilowatt count rises to 420kW.

Let’s rattle off some numbers. The 0-100km/h sprint is over in 3.8sec and 0-200km/h takes 13.3sec. That’s rapid in anyone’s book, especially considering the 324kW/550Nm previous generation reached 100km/h from rest in 4.3sec.

porschemacangts 68

Yet it isn’t just from a standstill that the dual e-motors show a clean pair of heels. And despite using a single-speed reduction gear instead of the Taycan’s rear-mounted two-speed transmission, the Macan has plenty of overtaking prowess, too. It only needs 2.2sec to accelerate from 80 to 120km/h, while the top speed is 250km/h.

The GTS also has audible sound – inside AND out. Yep, that’s right, it generates synthesised external acoustics that are surprisingly loud. There are two “exclusive electric sports sounds” tied to the Sport and Sport Plus driving modes, while Normal is silent.

Are they convincing? No, not really. Especially if you’ve experienced products from either Hyundai’s N or Genesis’ Magma divisions. Although, they do help deliver an audible sensation of speed.

How far can the Porsche Macan GTS go on a charge?

Thanks to the sizeable 100kWh (95kWh usable) nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) lithium-ion battery pack, the 2026 Porsche Macan GTS has a WLTP-rated range of 513km.

Electric energy consumption is a claimed 21.2kWh/100km, which we came close-ish to at 22.8kWh/100km on a 300km test route including city, suburban, highway and road-testing conditions. As we’ve found previously, Porsche’s distance predictions are trustworthy, too, giving you an accurate target to quell range anxiety.

Due to the 800-volt architecture, the Macan GTS accepts a replenishment rate of up to 270kW from a DC rapid charger, which facilitates a 10 to 80 per cent zap in 21 minutes. Zero to 100 per cent using an 11kW AC unit takes 10 hours.

While using the Normal drive mode, rear-wheel drive is predominantly used to maximise range and efficiency.

What is the Porsche Macan GTS like to drive?

The Macan Turbo tends to fall into the trap so many fast EVs do by being almost needlessly rapid in a straight line, but not so much fun in the corners. Which isn’t very Porsche.

This is something the 2026 Porsche Macan GTS aims to address without losing its ability to catapult you forwards with abandon. Built on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture co-developed by Audi, the GTS differentiates itself by having the lowest centre of gravity of any Macan.

It’s 10mm lower and uses a bespoke tune for its air suspension. The GTS gains model-specific dampers and anti-roll bars for increased agility and dynamic prowess – well, according to Porsche’s media jargon. Also helping the 2395kg GTS feel more athletic is Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus).

Effectively giving the sensation of shrinking the wheelbase, the rear-axle steering turns the back wheels in the opposite direction to the front wheels at slower speeds by five degrees, reducing the turning circle from 12.1 to 11.1 metres. And paired with the dual-valve adaptive air suspension, even with the stiffer GTS tune, it proves comfortable and easy to live with in the CBD.

However, this is a GTS Porsche, so it needs to perform dynamically. And it certainly can. On smooth surfaces, there are high levels of grip to dig into from both the chassis and the wide Bridgestone rubber. The front end bites vehemently, the rear-steer aids mid-corner turn-in and PTV Plus even allows a bit of squirm at the back to keep things exciting.

It’s all very un-EV.

Well, until you’re reminded of it by the instantaneous delivery of its power and almost 1000Nm of torque. Still, it isn’t a light-switch experience, with progression found in both the brake and accelerator pedals.

The problem is, extracting this ‘fun’ is dependent on the right conditions and having the intrusive lane keeping switched off. Not only does the rear-steer add turn, but it also introduces a 15 per cent more direct steering ratio up front.

porschemacangts 1

And for an electronic system that was already pin-sharp, it can make the GTS overly nervous and twitchy. It reacts to your inputs with the binary eagerness of a gaming console, especially on a twisty, narrow country road.

Pair it with the overzealous lane keeping that bluntly pilots you away from any line within earshot, and it doesn’t make for a pleasant experience. Switching it off, and flicking the steering wheel-mounted drive mode selector to Sport, is a must when driving spiritedly. Yet the GTS never truly feels as involving as its predecessor.

Overall, the Macan GTS needs room to breathe to exploit the best of its handling wares. And when you line all those ducks up in a row, the underlying Porsche-ness comes to the fore.

What is the Porsche Macan GTS like inside?

With generous lashings of Race-Tex material and red stitching, the cabin of the 2026 Porsche Macan GTS gives off racy vibes. Even the steering wheel has a centre line and the seat belts are red, too.

Luxury isn’t forgotten, though, with plush leather and the general sense of top-notch build quality you’d expect from a Porsche. And at night, the ambient lighting bathes the cabin in a hue of your choosing. The sound-deadening keeps the interior hushed, while the ergonomics are well resolved, too. Mounting the gear selector within the dash seems odd at first, but it works well in practice.

Despite being an SUV, the range of seating adjustment is appreciated, and you can sit low. It’s also refreshing to see, and feel, upmarket fabric seats rather than leather, while the powered bolstering means bodies of all shapes and sizes can be hugged.

The centre console-mounted climate and audio controls are the ultimate form-meets-function solution, proving the world doesn’t have to migrate to universal touch-screen use. It’s all delightfully tactile without taking your attention off the road. Well done, Porsche.

Storage solutions are abundant, with a deep centre cubby joining a glovebox and console bin. Vision out is generally decent, although the A- and C-pillars are on the thicker side. The analogue Sport Chrono clock is also nice to glance at.

Headroom in the back is adequate rather than palatial thanks to the tapered roofline and sunroof, but legroom is the biggest beneficiary of the extra 86mm of wheelbase over the first-gen Macan. Quad-zone climate control with rear air vents helps keep everyone at the right temperature, too.

The 40/20/40-split folding rear pews recline and stow flat for extra boot space. Cargo capacity is relatively generous for an electrified medium SUV at 476 litres, which expands to a maximum of 1348L. There’s an 84L ‘frunk’, but it’s largely consumed by heavy charging cables.

Should I buy a Porsche Macan GTS?

There’s a sense that, for the Macan at least, GTS has become more of a trim level than a specialised performance variant. It’s an SUV that’s been made fast, rather than a true performance offering first.

Stripping the EV gubbins from the 2026 Porsche Macan GTS would reap greater rewards for brand loyalists and driving enthusiasts. Not to mention cutting about 400kg of kerb weight while also injecting missing involvement and emotion.

There’s a clear sign Porsche knows this, too.

While the Macan will continue on sans internal combustion, the famed German marque is plotting a return to petrol power with another medium SUV.

Still, the Macan GTS stacks up if an athletic aesthetic, capable dynamics and an electric drivetrain are must-haves in your go-fast SUV.
