Porsche has green-lit a coupe variant of its third-generation Cayenne SUV.
Created to steal sales from the BMW X6, Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe and the forthcoming Audi Q8, the sportier Cayenne Coupe will hit European showrooms by the fourth quarter of 2019.
Set to be assembled at the same German factory in Leipzig, where both the regular Cayenne and Panamera are assembled, the Coupe SUV will feature both a more rakish rear-end and revised front bumper, says Brit mag Autocar.
Claimed to have already been signed-off by Porsche's boss, Oliver Blume, the Cayenne will be positioned as a performance model.
That means it will miss out on the base petrol and forthcoming diesel engine and come with both the 324kW/550Nm 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 and the 404kW/770Nm twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8.
Unconfirmed is whether the Coupe will come with the 340kW plug-in Cayenne E-Hybrid but it's almost certain the 500kW Turbo S E-Hybrid will be offered.
It's not known how much of a premium Porsche will charge for the Cayenne Coupe when the sportier SUV arrives Down Under some time in early 2020.
