Porsche has released first details and images of its wildest SUV ever – the new Cayenne Turbo S – ahead of its official unveiling at the Los Angeles motor show next month.
Powered by the same 405kW/750Nm 4.8-litre twin-turbo petrol V8 as the range-topping Panamera Turbo S (which costs $443,600 plus on-roads), the similarly badged Cayenne ups the ante on the already-rapid Cayenne Turbo by some 37kW and 50Nm. That’s enough for Porsche to claim it can accelerate to 100km/h in a paltry 4.5 seconds (two-tenths less than the Turbo) and to a top speed of 283km/h (5km/h more), making it the quickest and fastest SUV from the German sportscar-maker ever.
For the record, BMW’s direct rival in the X6 M, which runs a 408kW/680Nm twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8, officially manages 0-100km/h in 4.7 seconds and a 275km/h top speed.
However, Porsche has also announced a price of $294,000 plus ORCs in Australia, where first deliveries will take place in February.
That makes the new Cayenne performance leader more than $100,000 dearer than the X6 M ($190,900 plus ORCs), some $46,500 pricier than the Cayenne Turbo ($247,500) and the most expensive Porsche SUV yet.
Cayenne Turbo S owners won’t pay any more for their fuel, however, with Porsche claiming average fuel consumption of just 11.5L/100km – the same as the Turbo.
Porsche also says the Turbo S brings a new level of handling dynamics while retaining all of the standard Cayenne’s off-road capability, tall ride height and towing capacity.
Naturally, it comes standard with everything the Turbo offers, including air suspension and active PASM damping control.
In addition, it also scores the Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) variable roll-bar system, the Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) rear-wheel torque distribution system and the Sport Chrono package.
Visually, setting the Turbo S apart from lesser Cayennes are high-gloss black air inlet screens, headlight housings, wing mirror caps and huge 21-inch Turbo II alloy wheels.
Created especially for the Turbo S is a new bi-colour interior leather package and trim colours – including black/carrera red or black/luxor beige combinations – plus a new carbon cabin package.
