Porsche Taycan to hit 200km/h in under 10 seconds

First Porsche EV to deliver repeatable performance by the bucket load

We already know the ground-breaking Porsche Taycan will be able to sprint to 100km/h in less than three seconds, potentially making it as quick as the brand’s lethal 911 GT2 RS (2.8sec).

But now Porsche has revealed that its first electric vehicle (EV) will be able to double that speed in less than 10 seconds. At least several times in a row.

Just as Mark Webber predicted, therefore, the Porsche Taycan’s all-important 0-200km/h acceleration time will be up there with million-dollar hypercars.

But with the Taycan’s official global debut less than three weeks away on September 4, Porsche is just as keen to tout the repeatability of its Tesla-baiting EV.

Porsche’s latest YouTube teaser video  shows the battery-powered sedan, which is actually smaller than the Panamera, rocketing down an abandoned airstrip multiple times.

“After being pushed 26 times from 0-200km/h with an average under 10 seconds, the Taycan is ready for its debut,” says Porsche in the video description

This is an impressive feat given the reduction in performance of most cars after repeated hard use -- especially EVs as battery and motor temperatures rise.

Excitement surrounding the all-wheel drive 450kW German sports sedan is rife around the world and the Porsche Taycan has already broken a record for the number of pre-orders ever achieved by a Porsche model before launch.

Due in Australian showrooms from late 2020, the Taycan will eventually be available in multiple variants, the cheapest rear-wheel drive version of which is expected to undercut both the 911 and Panamera at less than $200,000.

You can tune in to watch the Porsche Taycan’s world premiere when it is live-streamed on newstv.porsche.com at 3:00pm CEST on September 4 (12:30am AEST on Thursday, September 5 in Australia).
